World Memory Championship 2018

 

The World Memory Championship was held this year in Hong Kong from 20th-22nd December 2018, with 269 competitors from 18 countries (China, North Korea, Mongolia, India, Algeria, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Macau, Britain, Tunisia, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, United States, Russia, France and Morocco) to compete in 10 events: Abstract Images, Binary Digits, Random Numbers, Names and Faces, Speed Numbers, Random Dates, Spoken Numbers, Speed Cards.

Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco participated in the World Memory Championship this year, where Algeria officially represented by the Champions Nasser Aziri, Ikram Soumia Benaceur, Fatima Zahra Rouane, after they occupied the top three ranks within the Algerian elite participating in the Arabian Memory Championship held in Turkey On 1st-2nd November 2018, and Tunisia was represented by the Champion Yassine Ben Abdallah as champion of Tunisia and Champion of the Arab world for the year 2018.

The official Arab team was formed this year by Dr. Riadh Ben Saoucha as Leader of the Arab delegation, in addition to a number of accredited Arbiters from Algeria. Ahmad Lamine Chala, Kamal Lerari, Asmaa Benaceur, Abdul Ghani Khacha, as well as Rabie Ben Saoucha as media coverage officer, and the brother of Nasser Aziri as a companion.

The preparations for the World Championships began before that during a number of world championships held at the headquarters of the Arabian Memory Championship Foundation. The compititors were provided with the strategies adopted by the world memory champion Jonas Von Essen, who was invited last November to offer a training course for the Arab elite in the 7th Arabian Memory Championship.

The financial Sponsoring of Algeria’s elite was shared equally between “Algeria Memory Championship Foundation” and “Rami Foundation” to cover the basic costs of the three competitors from Algeria.

The Arab Elite Travel was on December 17th, 2018. The Algerian team and the Tunisian representative was meted in Dubai to go to Hong Kong together, where they stayed at the Regal Riverside Hotel, which hosted the 27th World Memory Championship.

This World Memory Championship was characterized by a very high level of competition, and many world records were broken as follows:

– Random Numbers: 3260 Number / 60 minutes.

– Speed Numbers: 608 Number / 5 Minutes.

– Abstract Images: 804 images / 15 minutes.

After three days of competition, the participating countries ranked as follows:

  1. China: 22610 points
  2. North Korea: 20186 points
  3. Mongolia: 19401 points
  4. India: 15730 points
  5. Algeria: 13727 points
  6. Malaysia: 12391 points
  7. Japan: 6315 points
  8. Taiwan: 3988 points
  9. Macau: 3094 points
  10. Britain: 3088 points
  11. Tunisia: 2917 points
  12. Vietnam: 2713 points
  13. Singapore: 2432 points
  14. Hong Kong: 1910 points
  15. United States: 1717 points
  16. Russia: 285 points
  17. France: 6 points
  18. Morocco: 0 points

Algeria is ranked fifth in the world with a total of 13727 points, a significant increase from last year’s 11716 points. The official Arab delegation also won the International Memory Master Certificates; Ikram Benaceur of Algeria, Fatima Zahra Rouane from Algeria. And the Arab Arbiters get their Certificates. and Yassine Ben Abdallah recorded Tunisia’s first official participation in the World Memory Championship.

The founder of the Arabian Memory Championship, Dr. Riadh Ben Saoucha, participated as a key arbiter in the “A Competition Room”, and Ahmad Lamine Chala, contributed also as a key arbiter but in the “B competition Room”, This is a great honor for the Level 2 Arab Arbiters in this global event.

Congratulations to Algeria this success and great progress, and congratulations to Tunisia for the first participation in the World Memory Championship.
